Logitech G15 Gaming Keyboard

The logitech G15 gaming keyboard has built up a great name for its self over the years. The G15 has been out for over 2 years and has very little competition. Its a little bit on the pricey side but really is worth every penny with the amount of frags the logitech G15 will help you get. Ill do a quick g15 review for you in the following article.

Logitech G15 Features

This keyboard has a ton of features packed into it. Not all of them will be useful to you in CoD4, but doesn't hurt to have them if you play other games. There are 2 versions of the G15 floating around, in this article I'll be talking about the older one with blue lights on it.

Logitech G15

Macros
Macros basically allow you to bind one key to trigger a sequence of key strokes. A function like this doesn't get much use in FPS gaming. If you play other games on the side like WoW, this could be a valuable feature that gets some good use every day.

G Keys
The G Keys are located on the left hand side of the Board. They are used to bind your macros to. There are 18 G keys, each with 3 states for a total of 54.

Back lit Keys
Each key on the G15 has a clear character in the middle, and the keyboard has blue lights built into it. When it comes to night time gaming all you have to do is press a button and all your keys will light up blue. The light even comes with 2 settings, dim and bright.

Media Controls
Right under the LCD screen it has a set of buttons for controlling music and video. Theres a volume control, pause/play, stop, next track, and previous track. Good for when your blasting music in game and don't feel like alt tabing out to skip or replay songs.

USB Ports
Don't like the fact that the G15 will take away one of your USB ports? Don't worry about it because the G15 also has 2 USB ports mounted on the front of the keyboard. So you can still use your joystick or game pad.

Multiple Key Presses
One of my favorite features is that you can press up to 10 buttons at the same time. Normal keyboards will cause your PC to beep if you press more than 2 or 3 at a time. In a technical game like CoD4 where you can do many actions at once this is extremely valuable. 10 buttons might be over kill, but its nice to know you can keep all your fingers busy if you wanted to.

This is by far the most interesting feature of the G15. Sitting at the top is this flip up LCD screen, which can do just about any thing.

The LCD screen is a very useful tool for gamers. In Battle Field 2 and 2142 I used mine to time vehicle spawns so I could be effective while waiting for my mech to spawn back.

There are drivers out there to make it show your hud for almost any game out. I dont really see the need for this though when you can just look at your monitor for that sort of stuff.

You can even get the LCD to display XFire messages. It also has CPU and RAM usage which can be helpful in trouble shooting hardware problems.

Its pretty crazy what you can do with the LCD screen and every day they just come out with new drivers that allow it to do even more.

The LCD might have a limited uses in a game like CoD4. Its just nice to know its there if you ever need it at some point in your future gaming adventures.

Ive had my G15 for about 2 years now, and its been nothing but good to me so far. Going from a normal board to the logitech G15 does take some getting used to. It took me 2 or 3 days to get used to the size. Once you get used to where the keys are you wont look back.

Almost every team mate I have played with over the past 2 years owns one of these boards. It really is a must have for competitve gamers. It is a little bit on the expensive side at about $80USD.

Its hard to find the older g15 version with the blue lights as opposed to the new orange one. Some people seem to have problems with the keys on the newer model. Over all both of the G15s are at the front of the pack when it comes to gaming keyboards, you cant go wrong with one of these.
