Left 4 Dead Versus
Left 4 Dead Versus
Left 4 Dead versus is one of the most interesting multiplayer game modes around. Eight players controls four special infected and four survivors. I’ll show you how to play survivors first then infected. Even when playing as the survivors you have to adapt your style of play. The AI is decent, but when human players are controlling the special infected a new dimension is added. If you know what to look for you can have a huge advantage.
Left 4 Dead Versus – Survivors
You have to cover open spots. Most people have a habit of looking straight ahead. The rear and flanks usually get less attention. Take note of where your team mates are watching and cover any thing they are missing. Using communication to figure out who is watching what area wouldn’t hurt either.
Learn common special infected spawn points. This is a big part of owning as a survivor. There are good spots and bad spots for special infected to spawn. There are a limited number of good spots in each map. So use things like Molotovs, pipe bombs, and shooting through walls to break them up. If they play a good spot your ready for them, if they play a bad spot they will be easy to kill. Either way they are owned.
Whats the easiest way to screw the other team? Prevent them from spawning in those good spots. Special infected can’t spawn in places where survivors are looking, or close to. If your team stops to heal or revive next to a good area for the infected its a good idea to peek in and prevent them from spawning. Be careful not to get too ballsy, getting separated from your team too often is the leading cause of rape.
A good survivor habit to have is prefire meele. This basically means to hit meele before some one gets owned by a hunter or smoker. Your que for prefire meele is usually going to be sound. When a smoker spits out his tongue he makes a weird ass but distinctive noise. When you hear this just automatically look at your closest team mate and hit meele. Hunters are the same way. They make weird noises while pouncing, when you hear that start slamming meele. It doesn’t always work but you will save many asses with this, maybe even your own.
Flash lights. Flash lights? Yes, flash lights. Turn them off please k thanx. Why you ask? Well because it lets special infected see you through walls silly face! There are some spots where you really do need a flash light, but try not to use it any more than you have to. Like every thing you can use this to your advantage. If you know theres some special infected behind you and your watching the rear turn your flash light on so they know your ready for them. If they know your ready they probably wont attack. The longer it takes them to come after you the less spawns they will get in.
Speed is another key to winning as survivors. The faster you move the more pressure it puts on infected. They get less spawns and less opportunities to do damage. If they spawn in from behind and your moving fast you can out-run them also. Moving too fast however can get you swamped in common infected. When using speed you need a point man using a shot gun and flanks using assault rifles or sub machine guns.
Left 4 dead versus is very intensive on who ever is hosting. To cut down on load to the server the game can only have so many infected spawned in at once. By default its about 30. This is why finales always come in waves, having every zombie come in at once would rape not only you but the server too. Theres a few ways you can use this to your advantage.
For one let sleeping zombies lie. If you don’t need to kill them leave them. Thats one less zombie that spawns in front of you. If a boomer pukes on you or a team mate near a finale or panic event, start it. If you kill off the boomers horde then call in the panic event horde you end up fighting more then you have too. Only 30 at a time can spawn in so it doesn’t matter that a boomer hit you before the horde came.
Left 4 Dead Versus – infected
As infected your going die… Like… Alot. You’ve got to make the most of each spawn. It’s all about timing. You shouldn’t throw yourself at the survivors as soon as you can spawn. Take a few seconds look around and ask yourself…
What class did I get?
Wheres my team or how much longer until they respawn?
Where can I go to do the most damage?
Those simple questions make a big difference.
Spawning in takes some thought too. For the most part spawning in from behind is a bad idea. The survivors can outrun you unless your a hunter. Spawning in front means they have no choice but to go through you. Stay away from big open spaces. Try rooms and closets off the main walkways. Take note of where your team mates have spawned and use them to your advantage.
Once every on is spawned you have a few seconds to set up. Try not to group up too much. Spread out so the survivors have to look in multiple directions. This gives hunters and smokers a few seconds to do some more damage and gives the boomer a chance to get his puke on.
If you want to get high damage attack you have to do one thing. Divide and conquer. Split the survivors up and your job becomes so much easier. You can do this a few ways. One is to use a smoker to pull some off of a ledge or out of a window. The other is to vomit on 2 or 3 survivors. The ones who aren’t puked on will move the front, and the ones who are will move to the back. Send your hunters and smokers after the guys who are in front and you will get good hits.
Part of being good as special infected is using the environment. Use high areas to get extra damage with hunter pounces. Have smokers pull people off ledges. You can also use hunters and smoker to trap people in parts where the survivors cant go back. The more you play maps the easier it is.
Another are most people overlook is reading the survivors. Not every one plays the same. So take a look at how the survivors are playing, and throw them some curve balls. The first thing you should do is figure out who is leading them. Hes going to be the guy up front taking charge. Most of the time he has the best items too.
Is he going too fast and getting separated from his team? How quickly do his team mates save him when you get him pinned? Is he paying attention to sound effects? If you can wear down the leader it effects their whole team. If you get a tank your going to want to take this guy out first.
