Computer Gaming Headset TypesThere are two basic types of gaming headphones. Supra-aural, where the ear pads simply sit on top of the ears(most common headphones). Circumaural, have larger pads that surround the ear (noise canceling headsets). So which kind of head set is better, and which should you choose? Sound quality wise they are about the same. Circumaural sound a little better, but its really not that noticeable. The deciding factor in which headset you buy should be comfort. If your going to spend hours gaming with these things that really is the most important factor. Every one is different. I know people who cant stand circumaural sets (like me!) and others who say the same about Supra-aural. So when it comes to gaming headset types try both and see which one doesn't piss off your ears.Computer Gaming Headset BrandsWhen it comes to headset brands there are definitely a few who stand out. Ill go ahead and list a few brands who know their stuff and take care of gamers. First up is my personal favorite SENNHEISER. For a while PC150s by these guys were the best gaming headset you could find. They still make quality sets to this day. Steelseries is decent brand. They have sound quality down pat. Engineering however isn't their strong point. If your not gentle with these headsets they will break. The last company I want to talk about is Plantronics. They make sturdy headsets with good sound quality. However some seem to have issues with the microphone later in the headsets life. Computer Gaming Headsets SENNHEISER PC166The PC166 is Sennheisers latest gaming headset. Its uses a 3.5mm / USB connector, and comes with a 10 foot cord. The noise canceling microphone it features is great for people who compete and play on gaming teams. There's also a volume control on the wire. However this usually get in the way more than any thing, getting caught in things and accidentally getting turned up or down. My favorite thing about this headset isn't the great sound quality, its the fit. Sennheiser has kept the same ergonomic shape shape for its headphones from the PC150-PC166. Some people don't like the relatively loose fit of these headsets. Over all the PC166 is a great headset.Computer Gaming Headsets Steelseries Siberia 51002SSSiberia is Steelseries most popular gaming headset. Its features a large circumaural fit. Some people like the full ear head sets, personally I cant wear them for more than an hour before they kill my ears. These high tension headsets also have a tendency to break. The Siberia headset does have some good things going for it though. It uses a clip on mic that you can put just about any where (convenient for getting drunk while gaming...). These headsets also have amazing sound quality, no noobs will be sneaking up on you. The 9 foot coiled cord is a convenient feature that cuts down on wire clutter also. If you like full ear headsets check out the Siberias.Computer Gaming Headsets PLANTRONICS GAMECOMPRO1The best thing this set has going for it is price. Its cheaper than the other headsets listed and you can find an even cheaper one if that's not low enough (PLANTRONICS GAMECOM1). Even with the lower price it still maintains good sound quality. The small ear piece configuration make it a good choice for those who don't like full ear headsets.Computer Gaming HeadsetsEach set of head phones has its strength and weaknesses. As long as you buy from people who know what their doing your in good shape. All these companys have a large variety of headsets to choose from.
