CoD4 Sniper, Your Guide to Sniping in Call of Duty 4
What would this game be without the CoD4 sniper. Its fun to choose some far off corner and pick people off from a mile away. There are lots of little things people never think about while sniping that can make or break you. In this Call of Duty sniping guide I'll go over what it takes to be effective and stay alive longer.
CoD4 Sniper - Choosing a Rifle
You have 5 sniper rifles to choose from in CoD4. When I snipe theres two quality's I want in my rifle, power and accuracy. So I will go over the two snipers that have those quality's.R700
The most accurate and powerful as hell, making the R700 my favorite CoD4 sniper rifle. The only draw back it has is that its bolt action. Then again we are sniping so we want one hit one kill, if you want to shoot the hell out of some one why not use an assault rifle. Most of the time if you hit someone above the waste with this gun its a one hit kill, I highly recommend the R700 for sniping in CoD4. Barret .50cal
I wont deny this gun is pretty sweet. The highest damage rifle in CoD4 almost always a one hit kill. The problem with it is accuracy, its almost pointless to have a semi auto sniper when it kicks back this much. The Barret is better for close range in semi auto then it is for sniping. If you miss your first shot pretend its a bolt action take and cover.
CoD4 Sniper - Choosing a Spot
The best spot to play as a sniper in CoD4 directly depends on what game type your playing. Some modes your going to have to get into the mix to be effective as a sniper. being effective is the most important part of sniping, you don't want to end up sitting on some useless part of the map getting one kill every 20 minutes. Search and Destroy
In SnD you have an objective to destroy or protect. Since the objective is stationary you can set yourself up to cover it and only worry about getting flanked. For this game type you cant sit off in some corner of the map while sniping, you have to get into the action to stay an asset to your team. Its hard to do at first, but once you get the hang of the sniper rifle it gets easier. Team Death match
TDM is one of the better game types for sniping, if not the best. Since the only objective is to kill you can get really creative with the spots you play. Its important to have many spots lined up since your enemies will respawn looking for the revenge kill. Make use of your environment, the best spots will leave only your head showing. Death match
DM is pretty insane I would recommend running an SMG or assault rifle rather than sniper in this mode. Sabotage
Sab is a tough place for a cod4 sniper. Since the objective is always changing you have to move to be useful. every time you move from one spot to another your rifle becomes useless, you don't want to get into to many fights with just your pistol. Head Quarters
Like sabotage the point of interest is on the move, and you should be too. Another tough game mode for snipers. Domination
A good game type for sniping. Theres a bunch of different objectives, so you can pick people off from one then move on to another before they catch on. As long as your spot over looks on the flags your good, it doesn't really matter if the flag is held by your team or the other team.
CoD4 Sniper - Attachments and Perks
What attachments should you use with your sniper rifle in Call of Duty? NONE, the acog scope is so bad you have no idea. The default scope will get the job done just fine.Perk 1
3 X frag grenades - This is a great choice for snipers, especialy if your sniping on and objective bases map. Easy to use without getting out of position. Bandolier - If you are totally going to town and destroy with the sniper rifle this is the perk for you, other wise you probably wont see much use with the extra ammo. 2 x Claymores - I don't recommend cornering yourself in a room with these in the door way. Its better to leave these behind in old spots after you move on to throw people off your trail. Perk 2
Stopping Power - Its all about one hit kills, this perk will increase your chances. This perk is incredibly good for snipping. Juggernaut - good for sniper vs sniper, but thats not to often. you want to get kills against people going for the objective which is almost never other snipers. Overkill - Its really hard to sacrifice stopping power for this, but if your playing sabo or head quarters it might be worth it. Perk 3
Iron lungs - Um obviously this perk was made for us snipers so its a good idea to make use of it. Extreme Conditioning - This can be alright when you want to move from spot to spot quickly.
CoD4 Sniper - Technique
This is where things start to get complicated. Your kit is all setup and you picked out a good spot. I'll go over some technique tips that every cod4 sniper should know.Movement
Don,t move while your zoomed in. You are most accurate while sitting still. Get the timing down so that right after you fire your shot you move behind cover. Sniper vs Sniper
Its not uncommon to run into another CoD4 sniper. One shot per spot, if you kill a sniper from your spot its time to move. they know where you are and I bet you any thing they will probably be looking for you. Even if you miss your shot move to another, if you saw them they probably saw you and if you peek that same spot your an easy target. Moving
When you pick up a few kills or the objective changes its time to move out. It doesn't have to be far but you should really look for another angle at least. While moving its best to travel with your pistol out, so if you've unlocked the desert eagle your in good shape. Team Work
Don't forget about your team. Its easy to forget about your sniping by yourself. Stay focused on the objective rather than getting kills to put your team in a position to win. Picking
Picking is the specialty of snipers in any game. Pick off guys that get to aggressive out in the open. To get picks you have to put your self in danger by getting close to the action, in modes like SnD its worth the risk. Getting Picked
If an enemy sniper picks you its fine to go for the revenge kill but be smart about it. Don,t go to the same spot you just died from... sounds like common sense but I have been in servers and killed the same guy 10 times in one round because he refuses to move. Get your revenge from another angle, and find a new spot for the rest of the game. Mix it up
You don't have to stay sniper the whole round. If the game changes and your being defeated by smoke and people bypassing your field of view go SMG or assault. Be adaptable and adjust to how the people in your server are playing.
