What is a CoD4 clan?

A cod4 clan is basically just a group of players who wear an identifying tag and play together. Clans play an extremely important role in any online fps not just CoD4. About 90% of the servers you play in call of duty 4 are paid for by clans (if your playing the pc version).

Why join a clan?

Call of Duty 4 is a team game. If you have team mates on voice with you, your going to do better and have more fun. You don't need team mates to do well but its a lot easier with some help.

Joining a clan in cod4 can give you access to a good server with an admin in close contact. Most clans wont give you admin options unless you help pay for the server. Should you need an admin it wouldn't be hard to find one if they are on your team.

Once you get to the point where you start consistently scoring in the top of public games you might get bored. Competition in online leagues/ladders can be fun, but you will need a dedicated team. Most CoD4 clans compete in online competitions in one form or another.

Leagues/Ladders for CoD4 clans

As long as theres been online games there have been clans, and a place for those clans to compete with each other. Leagues are more abundant than ladders now. Theres even a little bit of money to be made in online leagues , although you will have to place top 3 to get any thing decent. I will go over some of the more popular places for CoD4 clans.

OGL
This place has a reputation of not having serious competition. Making it a good place for newer clans to get into the scene without having to get wrecked by a top team. Since the competition is so diluted here you wont learn much, I would suggest not staying too long after you get a feel for the game.

TWL
This site has been around for a long time. The competition here is much better than OGL. Many players new to competition get their first taste here, TWL was the first place I played a match. This is another good place for beginners to cut their teeth and see if CoD4 competition is for them. However if you want to play against some of the best teams in North America you have to move up.
Average CoD4 Teams - Team Warfare League

CEVO
This place is known for great competition. All the top teams and seasoned CoD players are here, why? Because this is a pay to play league with a cash prize for the top finishers. Playing in a place like this you will get to see what CoD4 competition is all about, and learn a lot along the way.

TGL
TGL is one of the newest leagues, and is also one of my favorites. This place offers great competition, prize money and no entry fees. Playing in TGL you will run into many pro gaming teams, if you last long enough. Its a great place to play even if your team isn't seasoned you can learn from the best without having to dish out cash.
Very Good CoD4 Teams - Total Gaming League

CAL
This used to be a good place to play. CAL is slowly fading as the end all be all of online leagues. The best teams in North America used to frequent this league before Cevo and TGL. This league by far has the worst admins I have ever had to deal with in 8 years of gaming. However it still has good competition and a few top teams still play there. So if you want some free experience you might want to check it out.

GGL
A popular league for console games. they have money tournaments and quality teams to compete against.

ClanBase
ClanBase is a European site for CoD4 and a ton of other games. They regularly host cups and always have ladders running. Its also a good source for gaming news and events.

CoD4 Clans

There are teams that play at every skill level, so there are teams for players of every skill level. Not every CoD4 clan has the goal of being the #1 team in the world, most are just here to have fun. The most fun part of being on a gaming team is the people you meet and the friends you make.

If you are trying to find a Call of Duty 4 clan to join there are a few ways you can go about it. Each of the league and ladder sites I named above have forums where you can search out potential teams. The best way to find a team is to join a clan server, show them what you got and ask if they are recruiting.

If you want to join a top team you have a long road to travel. No top team will take some one who's name they don't recognize. With sponsorships and big tournaments on the rise, they cant risk picking up a cheater. If you want to have a shot at joining a top team you either need a big name with lots of experience, or you have to be able to travel to LAN events and do well.

Don't forget top competitive teams play the game 3-6 hours a night, some times more. To the point where its almost not fun any more. Not every one can or wants to commit to some thing like that. Most players have fun playing casually and theres plenty of easy going teams out there.
