Call of Duty 4 Review

Call of Duty 4 the latest installment in the CoD series. I'll review the game and go over its achievements and short comings. Mostly I will be focusing on the multiplayer, since single player is relatively short.

Customizability

One of the first things you will notice when you start up Call of Duty 4 is the create a class button. By far one of the coolest features of the game is create a class and what it allows you to do. It allows you to pick out your own Primary Weapon, Side Arm, Special Grenades, and Perks. The more you play the more points you collect and the more items you can unlock in those category's. Once you reach level 10 you are able to use Create a Class.

Primary Weapon
There are 22 weapons you can unlock over the course of the game. This includes Assault rifles, Sub Machine Guns, Light Machine Guns, Shot Guns, and Sniper Rifles. experimenting with all these weapons in Call of Duty 4 with keep you busy for a while. Each of these guns also has attachments that you unlock by getting kills with that weapon. These include Grenade launcher, silencer, red dot sight, and ACOG scope (its like a sniper scope). Ontop of that getting a certain amount of head shots will unlock different skins for those weapons. Each gun has 5 skins you can unlock.

Side Arm
You have 5 pistols you can choose from (once you unlock them all) M9, USP .45, M1911 .45, Desert Eagle, and the Golden Desert Eagle. One of my favorite things about the pistols in Call of Duty 4 is they all pack enough punch to easily get 1 kill. The pistols are decent at medium range but much better suited to close range combat.

Special Grenades
Besides the standard frag grenade you now have 3 special grenades to choose from Smoke, Flash and Stun grenades. Smoke nades quickly billow up a cloud of smoke that last about 5-6 seconds before fading. Flash nades will white out your screen for about 3 seconds and leave it out of focus for 2-3 more seconds. The stun grenade whites out your screen for about a second, then makes you sensitivity extremely low for 4 seconds leaving you very vulnerable.

Perks
There are 22 perks in Call of Duty 4 divided into 3 sections, you can choose one perk from each section. There are all sorts of interesting perks, one that make your gun more accurate on the run, another that allows you do more damage or give you more health and many more. The wide variety and possible mix matching you can do adds a lot of replay value to the game. The create a class feature will give you reason to keep coming back to the battle field trying to put together the perfect Call of Duty pack.

CoD4 Game Types

Call of Duty 4 has 6 unique game types. You can choose from Search and Destroy, Sabotage, Team Death Match, Head Quarters, Free for all, and domination. A feature called hardcore mode can be activated inside these game types. Hard core takes away your cross hair, HUD, and causes weapons to deal out more damage than usual.

Search and Destroy
SnD is one of the more popular game types in CoD. In this mode one team is on offense and the other defense. The team on offense must plant a bomb at one of the 2 bomb sites before the round time runs out. The defending team has to protect the bomb site until the round timer runs out or kill every member of the attacking team. The first team to reach the score limit wins the match, most servers run 5-10 rounds before the match ends.

Sabotage
In sabotage one bomb site is spawned in a random spot on the map. Both teams try to plant a bomb on the site, who ever plants the bomb and protects it until it goes off scores a point. What ever team gets the most points by destroying bomb sites win the match.

Team Death Match
TDM is another popular game type. Its the same mode that you have seen for years in first FPS, two teams pitted against each other what ever team gets the most kills wins. Its easy to jump into and is a great place for people testing out new kits and learning maps.

Head Quarters
In this game mode objectives are spawned randomly on the map one at a time. Its each teams object to capture the objective by standing in its capture radius, which is different for each spot it can be any where from 2-10 meters. Once an objective is captured the team that captures it gains points untill the other team destroys the objective by standing in the capture radius. The defending team doesn't respawn in until the objective is destroyed. If the opposing team is unable to destroy it the timer will run out and a new objective will spawn in another spot. What ever team acquires the most points by holding the objectives the longest wins.

Free For All
Good old free for all, no team mates no objectives just straight fragging. Cut every one down who stands in front of you and who ever racks up the most kills at the end of the game wins the match. Things get pretty crazy in the bigger servers.

Domination
This mode is a lot like battlefield, There are mutiple capture points set across the map. you capture the points by standing in the flag radius. What ever team holds the most flags slowly gains points, which ever team gathers the most points wins.

CoD4 Maps

Call of Duty 4 comes with 18 maps. Not all of them are winners but the good and bad maps are about even in number. All the maps feel fresh, each one plays out in its own unique way.

Maps like Overgrown are wide open and allow players to take many different approaches to objectives. You also have more straight forward maps like Wetwork where you are on a freight ship. Then theres Shipment where its so close quarters your never more than 40 meters from from the opposing team, making the action hectic.

Call of duty 4 wetwork

Even though theres so many game types for all these maps for the most part things flow well on each map no matter what game type. There are a few exceptions for maps like Shipment where its extremely close quarters. Even though theres 18 maps most of them feel polished, and balanced.

There are some maps that feel choked up. Bloc is a map set up with 2 hotels and a large open court yard in the middle in the middle, with each team spawning on opposite flanks of the hotel. On this map there usually lots of snipers and camping, which slows down the game play and sucks the fun out of the map.

Other maps in Call of Duty 4 have great structure, Strike for example. This is a large map with lots of cover and multiple enterable buildings. Although theres lots of structures and hiding places the map is set up so theres many entrances too flank and maneuver on objectives and players.

The game has been out for a few months now and most of the server admins have figured out which maps are good and which are bad. You shouldn't have a hard time finding a server with good map rotations.

Call of Duty 4 Look and Feel

The CoD4 server browser works good and usually gives you a large chunk of servers within 10-30 seconds. My biggest problem with the browser is theres no way to filter out Hard Core game mode.

Call of Duty 4 is a great looking PC game, that being said having a powerful computer will make this video game easier to run. Since CoD4 is on the Q3 engine you can tone down the game enough to where you should be able to hold decent fps without having to spend your life's savings on a new PC. If you have computer hardware to run the game at hi-specs CoD4 will look amazing.

Call of duty 4 overgrown

Once you get tired of staring at the ground and watching the smoke effects, you will be pleasantly surprised by the gameplay in the latest CoD. The hit detection is very good, (These Call of Duty 4 commands will help) antilag makes the game feel much better.

Some thing I have never liked about the CoD series is still in the game some how. The grenades are spammy and they have a perk that allows you 3 frags. The mounted machine guns are back and are insanely overpowered. They can shoot through 4+ sets of walls and still kill you in 2 hits.

Some thing Call of Duty 4 has going in its favor is replay value. There are so many different things you can experiment with in CoD4 it will take you a while to get bored. With the different gun properties and the attachments you can unlock for each of them. Not to mention all the perks you can unlock and then combo with all the guns. Chances are by the time you retire from CoD4 there will still be plenty of things you haven't tried yet.

The guns have a sturdy feel, the high damage makes them a lot of fun to use. Most of them don't have insane bullet spread like most games love to do now. Accurate high damage guns the way every game should be. One of my favorite features is the damage system. Guns like the SMGs and the Assault Rifles wont kill with one headshot, it takes two with these guns. So when you die to head shots its not some lucky dude spraying at you down and hitting the jackpot. The guns that should kill with one headshot do, the sniper rifles.

Call of duty 4 cover

If you are a fan of FPS Call of Duty 4 has some thing to offer you. It's one of the best multiplayer games thats come out in the last few years. This game is deffianatly worth checking out $50 is worth it for a game that will keep you entertained like Call of Duty 4 will.
