Battlefield 3 Conquest Tips

So you need some Battlefield 3 conquest tips? Conquest mode is what Battlefield built its name on. Conquest revolves around tickets. Each team starts with a set amount. There are two ways to lose tickets. The first is to die and not be revived. The second is to hold enough flags for ticket bleed. The object is to cause the enemy teams tickets to reach 0.

Conquest Tips – Map Flow

The first step to becoming good at conquest is understanding map flow. Enemy players come streaming out of opposed capture points. There can be many combinations of captured flags that create different danger zones. Try not to get yourself pinched between two enemy flags. Attacking from angles where you have friendly controlled areas to your back makes focusing on an attack easier. Players are not randomly running around the map before you happen upon them. There’s a predictable system to where enemy players reside. Understanding that system and using it to your advantage will make you a master of BF3 conquest.

BF3 Conquest Tips – Predicting the Enemy

There’s no need to take every corner with anxiety over running into the enemy. Every enemy player has two things, a point of origin, and a destination. Any enemy controlled flag is a possible point of origin. Since we are playing conquest mode their destination should be one of your flags. Sometimes buildings with good vantage points can also be destinations. Now that we have 2 good pieces of information we can create a line from origin to destination. Any where in or around this line we must be alert and ready for action. In these areas you’ll want to cut down on sprinting and take corners slower.

Conquest Tips – Kits

Battlefield 3 conquest favors two kits, the more important of the two being engineer. Evading tanks is fine, but at some point the enemy armor will need to be dealt with. If everyone’s hiding when a APC or tank shows up that armor will quickly overrun your flags. Take advantage of the anti-vehicle mines, placing them in shade makes them extremely hard to spot. Not to mention when you die old mines will stick and you get to put even more down.

The other main kit is assault. Engineer might be the most important class but assault guns do better at mid – long range. You need assault players to take flags and push back enemy infantry. It’s good to have a few engineers and a bunch of assaults. Another big aspect of assault is your ability to revive. This saves your team tickets and makes your score look sexier.

Conquest Tips – Capturing Flags

Capturing a flag is easy when the base is empty. Whenever you have a feeling that an enemy flag is unguarded go for it. These flags are  fast and there’s no need to worry about clearing gay spots. Most flags will be defended and require a battle to obtain. The first thing I do when attacking an occupied flag is take note of where my teammates are. I don’t want to cluster up with 3-5 guys in an alleyway, if 5 guys in an alleyway is your thing more power to you. If you have a bunch of team mates hitting the flag from one angle it’s a good idea to come from the opposite side and pinch the defenders. You’ll get a bunch of easy kills and a higher success rate of capturing flags. Keep an eye on the status circle when capturing, if it pauses or reverses you have enemies in radius to deal with.

Conquest Tips – Defending Captured Flags

Know what flags are worth holding before you commit to defending. Flags closest to your main base should be a priority. They’re near to your uncapturable spawn and easy to counter-attack when grayed out. Likewise don’t waste deaths trying to defend a flag that’s close to your enemies main. If you have a good spot and can easily pick up the kills then you’re fine, just don’t burn tickets on a lost cause. Once you know what to defend a good spot needs to be found. A common mistake I see people making is to setup camp directly on top of a flag, this is a terrible idea as most flags are out in the open. You want to be out of radius for 2 reasons. Number one being that good spots are usually up in buildings or behind junk strewn around the base. Number two you will counter their capture and have no warning of their presence. If you let them begin to cap uncontested the flag will flash on your minimap. Once you see the flashing indicator you can slowly take corners from good angles and clear radius.
